Railway applications, such as electric locomotives, track maintenance vehicles, and rail-based service vehicles, require energy storage systems that are extremely reliable, safe, and designed to operate under harsh conditions and intensive duty cycles. The sector demands high standards of safety, operational continuity, and long-term durability, in addition to the need to integrate batteries into often limited spaces and complex onboard architectures. Added to this is the need to reduce downtime, simplify maintenance, and ensure consistent performance throughout the vehicle’s entire lifecycle, while complying with the regulations and technical specifications typical of the railway sector. For this reason, off-the-shelf solutions are not sufficient: batteries must be custom-designed for the specific application.

Our batteries provide full integration with the vehicle’s onboard systems thanks to the CANbus communication built into our BMS, as well as charging that can be configured according to various management modes.

To date, we have successfully implemented both 24-volt solutions for auxiliary services, with a total energy consumption ranging from 35 to 50 kWh, and high-voltage 650-volt solutions, with a total energy consumption ranging from 70 to 240 kWh.
The advantages of the 650-volt solution over 80-volt solutions lie both in the overall efficiency of the system—which operates at lower currents while delivering the same power—and in the efficiency and size of the electric motor, which is significantly more compact.
